Secondhand Smoke: Your Rights

Your Right to Breathe Clean Air

Know Your Rights

This is not a political issue. This is a health issue. It's about protecting the 83 percent of Hawaii residents who are non-smokers from the ugly byproducts that poison us with harmful toxins. CLEAR THE SMOKE asks you to please help protect the health, comfort and safety of everyone by insisting on the following rights:

1. THE RIGHT TO CLEAN AIR
You have the right to breathe clean air, free from harmful and irritating tobacco smoke.

2. THE RIGHT TO SPEAK OUT
You have the right to express - firmly but politely - discomfort and adverse reactions to tobacco smoke. You have the right to voice your objections when smokers light up around you.

3. THE RIGHT TO ACT
You have the right to take action through legislative channels, social pressures or any other legitimate means - as individuals or in groups - to prevent or discourage smokers from endangering your health and to seek the restriction of smoking in public places.
