What Can I Expect When I Call?
How does one phone call equal a healthier life for me?
Research shows that the best way to quit tobacco is through getting professional help, such as the Hawaii Tobacco Quitline, that combines coaching and Nicotine Replacement Therapy (such as the patch or gum).
Here is how the Quitline works:
1. Call 1-800-QUIT-NOW
The Hawaii Tobacco Quitline is completely FREE and confidential. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. When you're ready, call 1-800-QUIT-NOW (784-8669) or Click to Call for a call-back from a Quit Coach®.
The Hawaii Tobacco Quitline is open 7 days a week, Monday through Sunday 3am-9pm. If you call at any other time, a registration specialist will take your information and have a Quit Coach call you back.
2. Talk to a Quit Coach®
When you call the Hawaii Tobacco Quitline, you will talk to a professionally trained Quit Coach. Our coaches are specially trained to help you quit on your terms.
-
A Quit Coach understands how hard it is to quit and knows how to help you quit successfully.
-
Each Quit Coach has completed comprehensive training in tobacco cessation and knows the latest methods to successfully quit tobacco.
-
They are understanding and supportive, and have previous experience counseling for behavior change.
-
Quit Coaches do not pressure members into quitting or make them feel guilty if they stumble in the process.
3. Set a Quit Plan and Get Free Nicotine Patches/Gum
Your Quit Coach will work with you to create a quit plan just for you. The Quit Coach will talk story with you to find out what's been helpful for you in the past and what hasn't. From here, he or she will work with you to:
-
Help get you ready to quit.
-
Know what to expect as you quit.
-
Put together a quit plan that takes into account your personal needs.
-
Share problem-solving ideas to help you succeed.
-
Teach you the skills to help you break old habits.
-
Decide if Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is right for you. If it is, they can provide free nicotine patches or gum mailed directly to you.
-
Help you find other programs in your community that can help you through face-to-face help or through group sessions.
4. Get Support
Once youʻre ready to quit, your coach will arrange for follow up calls at your convenience and send you helpful materials so that you can stay on track between calls. You can also get help online or, if you prefer, your coach can help find face-to-face support in your area. Quit Coaches have helped thousands of smokers break the addiction. And they can help you too!
