  • It's Easy for Kids to Get Hooked! Read this report from Hawaii Department of Health. (pdf)

  • In the U.S., more young people smoke (23%) than adults (20.9%).

  • 2/3 of Hawaii high school students have tried smoking! Hawaii Department of Health. (pdf)

  • Each day in the U.S. about 4,000 kids try their first cigarette and every year there are 416,000 new youth smokers.

  • 60% of U.S. smokers start smoking by age 14.

  • Over 80% of all smokers become addicted to smoking and tobacco products before they reach adulthood.

  • Once addicted, a teen can be expected to spend $1200 per year or more on cigarettes, and will remain a customer for an average 17 years.

  • Even though teenagers have the same tobacco addictions as adults they are not allowed to use the patch or gum to stop smoking.
