The Mission of CLEAR THE SMOKE...

- Inform Hawaii about the tobacco industry and their manipulative practices.
- Create a community of individuals who believe in the right to breathe clean air.
- Highlight tobacco as a serious public health issue which will ultimately lead to healthier, longer, tobacco-free lives for Hawaii's people.

How is CLEAR THE SMOKE made possible?
Under a Master Settlement Agreement (MSA) with the four largest U.S. tobacco companies, Hawaii is scheduled to receive $1.3 billion over the next 25 years. Twelve and a half percent of the MSA is currently allocated to the Hawaii Tobacco Prevention and Control Trust Fund, established to support comprehensive tobacco prevention and cessation programs in Hawaii.

In 2001 the Tobacco Prevention and Control Trust Fund Advisory Board developed a 5-year strategic plan, outlining the goals of a comprehensive tobacco control program for Hawaii. In addition, the Advisory Board has developed funding recommendations each year regarding the use of the Trust Fund. The Clear the Smoke Campaign is administered by the Hawaii State Department of Health with input from the Advisory Board.
